| SMALL ENGINE OIL |

| The core to maintaining your small engine is keeping the oil changed at regular intervals. Most small engine manufactures reccommend somewhere around the 40 hour mark for changing the oil.If your small engine is on a tiller, lawnmower, air compressor or some other equipment that does not run continously, then 40 hours could be a season, however if it is a generator then it could be as soon as two days, counting 24 hours in a day. Since small engines dont go by mileage, but use hours as measuring guage, most of us use an estimate to the time between changes.Definitely one good sign to maintaining your small engine would be the color of the oil in your engine,if it is black, it needs to be changed. You should make it a regular practice to check the oil before you crank the engine at any time. The oil thickness or weight as it is reffered to is important in maintaining the engines operating ability.Regular 30 weight is recommended in most engines operating above 40 degrees, however I have used 10-30,but never 10-40. You would be safe with 10-30 in winter and regular 30 weight in summer in most any small engine. If at anytime you pull the oil stick and it is too full and you didnt add any oil and it seems thin, then it is possible it has gotten gasoline in it from sticking float in carburetor, you can read more on this in the troubleshooting guide at http://pass.smallenginetrblshtng.com So to sum it up, changing oil in your small engine every 40 hours and using 30 weight oil is the core to keeping your small engine maintained. |
