| Above is a photo of the riding mowers transmission being removed, and more importantly notice the variable speed pulley is mounted on the transmission housing of the riding mower. Note; a true hydrostatic transmission will be a hydraulic unit and one way to tell is it will have a fan mounted to main rear transmission pulley, as on your john deere, craftsman, simplicity mowers. |

| Here you can see rearend of riding mower removed, and pulley hanging underneath riding mower frame with bottom belt going to engine hanging in pulley, remember it has two belts. The screwdriver points to the mounting hole of the variable drive pulley.Since this is a unique rearend, the chances of finding a good used one is rare, and belts ususually have to be ordered in a lot of cases, instead of picking them up at your local small engine parts store. |

| This is a phot with top of rearend on riding mower removed, it shows axle, main drive gear, two gears up top, forward and reverse, plus spider gear and shift fork at very top.The next phots will show more detail. This type of riding mower has only a forward and reverse gear, remember the variable speed pulley is what gives you the speed, so these two gears, forward and reverse take a lot of wear and tear. |

| The above photo shows the shift linkage above as well as the two gears a forward and reverse for the riding mower. The shift fork either engages the forward gear or reverse by sliding in or out, when you select gear and in neutral the two gears need to free spin, keep that in mind as we progress to the actual problem, which by the way was that it quit pulling in forward gear.
