COMMON PROBLEMS OF PULSA JET CARB
Most of briggs side shaft engines from compressors to tillers have the tank style
pulsa jet carb. One common problem is the diaphram will go bad, which is part of
the pump mechanism on this type carburetor. One way to tell is if engine runs until
half tank of fuel is used and then shuts off and will not start back until you fill tank
completely full again,is an indication of a bad diaphram,a 95 cent part.
The carburetor itself is
attached to the tank, and by
the way the tank usually has to
be seperated from engine to
remove carburetor from tank
with ease, but a diaphram can
be installed with tank and carb
attached to engine.The tank is
actually a two piece tank with a
small holding area for fuel that
is used by engine, since the
diaphram pumps the fuel into
the small holding tank area.
The carburetor has two pipes
extending underneath it with
screens on each end that can
clog up over time,depending on
moisture the tank accumulates
over time.
This type carburetor is aggravating to work on to say the least, but you will find it on a
lot of equipment from tillers to air compressors and a few go carts, mostly 3 hp to 5 hp
model briggs engines will definitely carry this type of carburetor. For a break down and
photo of this carb go to CARBURETOR.
