Pushmower stop switches
Pushmower stop switches are connected to the handle you hold back on
the handle bar.The cable going from it to the engine by releasing the bar
is what stops the engine from turning. The cable is connected to a lever
that is held back with a stiff spring. The lever is actually attached to a brake
so to speak that grabs the flywheel and stops the motion of the engine.
You will also notice if you
follow the cable from the
push mower handle it usually
disappears under a plastic
cover that when removed
will reveal the stiff spring
and the only electrical wire
on the mower besides the
spark plug wire.
This wire goes to the ignition
coil and as you release the
bar the brake catches the
flywheel and another lever
slides up and touches a clip
where the ignition ground
wire is located killing the fire
to the engine, or grounding
the ignition coil causing it
not to fire. The wire is black
in color and small in diamater
One problem over time is that the lever that grounds the clip where the
ignition coil ground wire is located will wear, so that when you pull back
on the start bar on push handle the coil will be still grounded, causing
you to pull until you decide to tie handle back and check to see if plug is
firing.Check this wire as a troubleshooting technique when spark plug
is not firing. see troubleshooting guide for info on checking spark plug
