RIDING MOWER CUTTS UNLEVEL
SPONSOR
Whether you have a 17.5hp tecumseh, kohler, briggs,
kawasaki or some other type engine on your riding lawn
mower, the mower decks will be similiar and and uneven cutt
on your lawn can be caused by a bent blade or bad spindle
bearing.Abent blade is easy to fix, whereas a bad bearing
entails either replacing bearing or whole assembly in some
cases.

Riding lawnmower spindles come in several styles,Ayp or
American yard products, which covers, craftsman,
husqvarna carry most times the same spindles or pulley
assymblies . Usually there are three to four bolts that hold
the whole assymbly on to replace,a little more expensive to
replace, but a lot less work. Most new spindles come with
new mount bolts and the new spindles will have what is
called self threaded bolt holes or in other words as you
screw bolt into spindle it makes its own threads as it goes.

A lot of new riding lawnmowers, such as poulan, craftsman,
huskies have a blade with a star hole that mounts on the
spindle in the star pattern and if you dont get it aligned
properly within the star pattern and bolt in on, it will wear the
star pattern out causing blade to slip in high grass and
causing you to replace spindle shaft on that particular riding
lawn mower eventually, also will cause uneven cutt.

More expensive riding lawn mowers like john deere, kubota,
and some of your zero turn radius riding mowers have
bearings that are much more easily replaced than replacing
whole spindle assy.

Occasionally hitting something with your riding mower, such
as a brick or large stick will cause the casting on the spindle
assy to break where it mounts to deck, especially on ayp
type riding lawn mowers, which will cause an uneven cutt.

One simple way to check for a bad bearing on your riding
lawn mower is to grab blade by the end of it and try to move
it up and down, if there is more than a quarter of inch of play
or movement, then that particular bearing is going out in that
spindle on your mower.

So in summary, bad spindle bearings, bent blades,
improperly mounted blades on star mounts cause uneven
cutts on briggs, tecumseh, honda kohler or any other small
engine powering any riding lawn mower.
