RIDING MOWERS 3 YEARS INTO OWNERSHIP
THREE years or therabouts
you will run into several
problems with your mower.
One of which will be a safety
switch will most likely go out
and most riding mowers
have at least three.One on
the blade engagement, one
on the brake clutch
assyembly and one on the
seat. They are easy enough
to bypass to avoid replacing,
although you can replace
them with new ones,
especially if you have
teenagers operating your
riding mower.
A start solonoid will most likely go out or have gone out by now, usually a
10 to 15 dollar part on your riding mower. If you dont know where it is just
follow the red battery cable from your battery and it will lead you right to it,
the symptom that it is bad is the mower will not turn over, or you hear a
clicking noise if you have a fully charged battery, also batteries will go out
during this 3 year period, always make sure you get a battery with enough
amps and that means not the cheap battery on sale most times, because
parts houses put the low amp batteries on sale.If you dont know the amps
on your stock battery that came with the riding mower, at least get a 275
cranking amp battery.Another note is most of todays riding mowers come
with a solonoid on the bottom of the carb bowl, which without a good
battery it will not operate and cause your mower not to crank up,it controls
the gas flow from the bowl to the intake of the mower. It unscrews from
the bottom of the carb bowl and allows you to remove the bowl for a clean
out of gunk and water that accumulates in it,usually reccommended at
start up of every grass cutting season.
