Below is a breakdown of the standard tecumseh carburetor that comes on
snow blowers and 10 hp generators or side shaft engines.Typically we will be
concerned with items,25,21,22 and 30 as well as 28 for a carb clean out or
service procedure.
For a yearly service remove the carb bowl bolt, item 30, the items below it will
come out together with it as you unscrew it from carb body, item 34 is the mixture
screw for fuel,no need to remove it or adjust it unless you see varnish or crud
buildup after removing nut#30.After you remove nut, item #28 the carb bowl
should drop down, some will stick however and you will have to tap it to break it
free from carb body.Clean the crud from carb bowl with carb cleaner or fresh gas
and clean cloth.Usually this is all that is neccesary for a service YEARLY,plus
change air filter.
If carb is flooding, pouring gas into air
filter then you will need to inspect the
float which is item25 and usually it is
made if brass and tends to
develop a pin hole around the
seam where it is put together and
fuel gets into it causing it not to
float high enough to shut gas flow
off,you must remove by taking item 24
out, the float pin.Once out you can
shake the float and listen for the
sloshing of fuel inside it, it only takes a
small amount to cause this
problem. Also worn needle and seat will
cause this items 21 and 22.The needle
should fall down when you remove
float, so be careful not to lose.Seat is a
small rubber looking gasket type
item, with a hole through the middle of it,
to replace it, you will need to remove
carb from engine and turn upside
down to get to it with a small pick to pry
it out.IF flooding, I RECOMMEND
REPLACING,FLOAT, NEEDLE AND
SEAT
I would say 90 percent of problems starting your tecumseh, assuming you have good
spark, will be with your carburetor.Tecumseh carbs, must be cleaned yearly, briggs you
might get by two to three years, but for optimum service, each season is recomended to
clean out the bowl at least, not only is condensation a problem, but fuel breakdown from
season to season. The adjustment on the mixture setting is one and a half turns out from
screwing the mixture screw all the way in to start and then turn out until runs rough and
turn back until runs rough and then turn back mid way until it runs smooth all at idle
speed, usually does the trick for me.I HOPE THIS INFO HAS BEEN HELPFUL, TO GET
THE ABOVE BREAKDOWN YOU WOULD HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE A 14 DOLLAR
TECUMSEH MANUAL,SO IF YOU WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO GET YOURSELF A
FREE DEBT CONSOLIDATION QUOTE FROM THE BANNER BELOW IF YOU
HAVENT ALREADY DONE SO, IT WOULD HELP ME PAY FOR HOSTING THIS WEB
SITE AND HELP MY FEELINGS TO KNOW IT WAS APPRECIATED.
